The Convergence of Youth Professionals






Convergence of Youth Professionals (CYP) is a knowledge forum initiated by budding Youth Professionals pursuing professional courses like Chartered Accountancy (CA), Company Secretary ship (CS), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Masters of Business Administration (MBA). The founder members hail from City of Joy Kolkata located in the State of West Bengal in India.



This forum was proposed by YP CA CS Sumit Dhanuka to the budding professionals he came in contact while pursuing his professional studies in 2008. He has been readily associated with the ICAI (The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) and ICSI (The Institute of Company Secretaries of India). The first historical meet was held on 23rd November 2008 which marked the inception of a movement which has gathered support from the Professional Fraternity in the city. It is an oddity that after proposal of this forum, he returned to Bombay to continue his Article ship Training in PwC Bombay. The members who were influenced by YP Sumit’s brainchild took over the steering wheel in Kolkata. It has been a series of meets (altogether 28 regular meets and a mega event) marking discussion on topics on all diverse topics relating to Accountancy, Taxation, Macro Economics.


The forum inspite of having issues relating to venue, infrastructure and others is standing tall because of committed efforts of YPians.

Hi YPs!!Todays Grand Event in Singhi Hall has been cancelled... Apologies!! Further, tommmorow is the most awaited marathon...We all meeting at 7 AM at the address given below. The marathon will start from South Gate of Raj Bhawan/ North end of Red Road to celebrate Diamond Jubliee. Please come on time to collect ICAI jerseys which is distributed on First come First serve basis.

This event will get over at 8:00and after the breakfast, we are planning to have GROUP DISCUSSION on topic to be given tommorow only.So YPs, Be prepared of a busy 1st half...

The creation of the blog of CYP in the third week of its existence speaks in itself of the proactive attitude of the CYPians. Together we can and together we will. We converge to make the difference. As we all know that when the youth professionals converge, there’s more that meets the eye, therefore let us keep striving hard to create the milestones and set the benchmarks which have never been in existence before. The killing desire of this brigade of youth professionals is here to leave a lasting impression for the coming generations of youth professionals to look up to. We are here to be the change we want to see around us and undoubtedly, the YPs of the City of Joy have something unique to bring before the globe, because we believe in chartering into the unchartered territories, in exploring the unexplored, in designing the undesigned and in discovering the undiscovered, we are the Youth professionals of this century. The response has indeed been very good.each 1 of us are waiting for every Sundays eagerly.It has certainly become the most exciting experience of the week. We have even started preparing for forthcoming weeks plans and schedules in advance. Its like we have so much to do and so little time to fit in those every week.

Also it is a very gud feeling seeing the enthusiasm everyone is showing.

I am extremely sorry for showing my inactiveness from the past few weeks for my very own CYP..(due to some personal problems)..bt i assure all that we will have that exitement and that commitment from all once again and we will never let go our dream of taking CYP to greater heights haywire..Morever I would like to make u all aware of the consistent work of some of the YPS which is worth appreciating. Pardon me for not mentioning names because incase I for get some names, hence I would just name the commitees which have been actually working very hard -

Others really need to gear up..and come forward with the work they have done in the past 1 month since when the committees have been formed..

YPs coming forward and accepting their inconsistent involvement with the group, truly worthy of appreciation....but I believe the YPs who are unable to make it to the upcoming meets should actually put their leave/absence from the meets on record.....I believe each one of us have a significant role to play in fostering the larger interests of the group.

Hello Friends. I believe that this forum is loosing its way. Reasons -
a) Mentors are no longer taking much interest.

b) Sitting in the park on the ground is making things unprofessional-so its not encouraging new members.

c) Things are becoming boring because our focus has completely been on a few things - tecnical sessions (similar technical sessions) and GDs - thats it

d) The biggest reason why a lot of regular members have stopped coming is because there is groupism and dominance by a few members. Probably many of you are nt realising it, but this is the truth. Either others are not participating or are not being allowed to participate - and I have noticed both the things happening. So as soon as these so called dominating members leave (for jobs or re-location) - this forum is over. The others are not realising this.

e) Where are the copies of the technical discussions. Hardly any have been uploaded.

I am sorry to say this but this forum is merely a means to satisfy the requirements and needs of these dominating members. Infact the whole GD session had started gaining importance because of possible GDs in HUL.

Ironically a lot of our forum members have failed to clear the GD sessions of HUL!! This is the result.

We had been long trying to bring the members together for some important discussions to discuss the future of CYP. What this comment has done it has hastened up the whole process]The reply to this supposedly unidentified, nameless, unknown, undisclosed and last but not the least ANONYMOUS comment is only to take care of the development points suggested and action points demanded by the mysterious disciple (referred hereinafter as “my friend”)Participating in a forum by name of CYP is not like residing into a hotel and blaming the Hotel Admin for the untidiness. It’s like living in a home, such that whenever you see the dirt you stoop down to make things clean.Issue(a) - Mentors are no longer taking much interest.Mentors have yet not been a part of our forum. They have agreed to become a part of CYP, but it has been a failure on the part of YP's to take the initiative to cal them. But saying this i will also like to add that calling mentors would mean presenting the forum to the members at its current strength of the session standing at 12-15 members. For inviting a mentor it becomes imperative that we first bring back the attendance of the forum to an atleast the old level of 25 to 30 members.Issue (b) - Sitting in the park on the ground is making things unprofessional-so its not encouraging new members. Sitting in the discussion forum of elliot park, although is not so “professional” but gives the equal weightage to voices of all the members (rather than only to those who gain “undue dominance” by holding a mike in the board room).Nevertheless, We are trying our level best to tie up to a place where we can conduct our technical sessions. I appeal to all the members reading (including “my friend”) to suggest feasible solutions for formalizing with proper quotations.Issue (c)- Things are becoming boring because our focus has completely been on a few things - tecnical sessions (similar technical sessions) and GDs - thats itWe professionals ( CA, CS, MBA) represent the small educated, technically sound and expert section of the society. Mr Vikash Baid says, " You have to be an expert of your field, know it in and out and do a voracious reading of the subject." So, its our duty to enlight the world by the power of knowledge, expertise and know-how.Nevertheless, to make this journey of manifestation of education, learning, gaining proficiency along with the power to “Express yourself” (not anonymously but distinctively) we try to organize it as follows:a) Technical lectures
b) Elocution
c) Extempore
d) Group Discussions
e) Quiz on General Awareness
f) Team Activity (Temporarily Suspended due to Sunny Summers)
And then also “my friend” if things are getting uninteresting, Please come out with any other session you can think of which can be effectively, efficiently and practically be organised in a group of 20-25 without any financial burden on any and ensuring the participation of all.Issue d-1) The biggest reason why a lot of regular members have stopped coming is because there is groupism and dominance by a few members….things happeningThe biggest reason why the active members have become prominent (not dominant) is because they wait till the last moment for someone to come up and lead the way for others to follow but in absence of initiatives, pro-activeness from others who in spite of wanting to make a mark and participate wait for a invite to step up, these so called active members become the dominant devil and end up managing the whole thing.Let us divide the house in two groups:1) NON Dominant2)Not NON Dominant:We feel they are the ones who participate in sessions, have there say in selection of next meet’s agenda, and are asked and addressed in every discussion.

Let us try to name the Non "NON DOMINANT MEMBERS"YP ASHOK, YP RAHUL, YP MUDIT, YP MOHIT, YP BHAVANA , YP ADARSH, YP HARSHA, YP NILAM, YP NEHA GUPTA, YP PRIYANKA, YP NIDHI.This answer should come from the then so called Non DOMINANT Members.Every YP has done whatever is possible for him/her for the group. Please appreciate every one of us work 6 to 7 days a week, work 12 to 16 hours a day. Arranging sessions and ensuring the quality is not sacrificed requires a lot of hard work. Its only that some are more passionate about the group than others.Issue d-2) as soon as these so called dominating members leave (for jobs or re-location) - this forum is over. The others are not realising this. If these prominent members shift to other places, instead of this CYP being closed, we believe to have a opportunity of extending the arm of this forum to places outside Kolkata (e.g. CYP Mumbai) and achieve the objective of “converge to explore”.Issue e-2) I am sorry to say ….. forum is merely a means to satisfy …… the whole GD session had started gaining importance because of possible GDs in HUL. This forum is rather a means to achieve a concerted success of exploring thyself and improving the soft skills and knowledgebase which is a pre-requisite of every post higher than at least a data entry clerk.HUL’s selection process is a very typical, customary, natural, routine, conventional and last but not the least STANDARD elimination process whereby we are tested, whether we know how to arrive at a consensus, participate in a team, come to a agreement, ability to compromise, avoid disagreement, accord to a consent. It allows us to brainstorm and invokes lateral thinking which is quintessential to a corporate leader – attributes a corporate organization longs for dearly in a candidate it is trying to select through a rigorous elimination process containing more than 2 GDs (if not less) per organization....Ironically a lot of our forum members have failed to clear the GD sessions of HUL!! This is the result. “I thought and thought but could not come up with the past tense of thinking”“My friend” needs to be equipped with the facts. 5 out of 6 YPians got through the GD.All in all, “my friend” and YPians at large, we all do require feedback on our performance but pointing out only problems is not the end of problems but suggesting solutions is.I will not appeal all to awake because I believe they already are but yes infuse a simple belief… YES, WE CAN!!

Here is my views on the structure of our weekly sessions The Sessions are planned very smartly to put proper and equal focus on every aspect

Technical Session: WE will represent our clients, our company and we have to be strong in this part. True that most of the learning is on job learning, but an understanding and background is imperative for a professional.

GD's: We are eliminated in a GD and not selected. ITS AN ELIMINATION ROUND AND NOT A SELECTION ROUND. No matter how genious you are, what ranks you have if you cannot fom a part of a group you cannot be the member of a company. Thats the bottomline. Besides all the present YPs get a chnce to speak out and participate.

Quiz: The quiz is always based on last weeks news events and developments. THIS was initiated to create a sense of realisation of importance of reading newspaper among the YPs.

Elocution : This increases the participation of other YP's and is a meaningful discussion on a topic.

Extempore: Life is an extempore. You are not given a chance to think twice before taking decisions or to speak on an issue. We tried to be prepared fot that through extempores.

Personality Development Session by Mr Dipak Khaitan. No details on it is required to be given

A session on how to face an interview board has been held.

Light Sessions where we play games has also been held. But tough summer conditions has made the games sesion not feasible in the last month.

The CYP Online Ready Reckoner is truly a great initiative on the part of CYP Kol. It would serve as a healthy platform for all of us, CYPians to come forward and express ourselves.....to come up with practical professional issues and also, to share our personal views and opinions to take the mission of CYP forward. Such initiatives on the web would bring all CYPians closer and bind us together in the furtherance of the broader objectives of CYP of keeping the process of learning and unlearning, defining and redefining, creating and recreating, inventing and reinventing and thereby, broaden our horizons of knowledge and make ourselves technically and emotionally competent to become total business solution providers of this era......

It is a matter of immnense displeasure that the youth professionals of this era are engrossed in issues as trivial as tracing an Anonymous blogger. Opportunities beckon us to come forward and present before the world who we are and what we are capable of rather than harping on the matters like identifying our very own well-wisher. It does matter to us who our well-wisher is. We welcome them all, whosoever he/she may be. I believe that we have a lot of emerging professional issues which can be explored into by taking fruitful insights from our fellow CYPians and our esteemed mentors. Times are passing by and it would be highly appreciated if the youth professionals of this generation come together with all the energy and enthusiasm to think big and do something really big!!!

i want to leave a few thoughts in my position as mentor of this group.
A) i believe the role of a mentor is to motivate the group to collectively move forward and in that respect i believe we have been present on almost all meetings and tried to help.
B) Meeting at park was very helpfull in kick starting the group as there was no cost involved and a lot of people could try it out before they they felt committed.personally during the winter i really felt good in meeting outdoors.
C) This is an open forun and anybody can volunteer to speak up even outside the agenda and i am sure he/ she will be welcome. personally we mentors are not personally known to any particular person and would welcome anybody to participate.yes in a group dynamics certain people will emerge as leaders but that is open to everybody to come forward and take pole position. that depends on your capability.
D)Being anonymous is never the sign of a strong person. if you have the strength of charecter speak up you will be better appreciated and will emerge as a leader.being able to give constructive criticism to collegues and even friends is the sign of a mature person. so my friend speak up at the forum and identify yourself you will be better apreciated.

And First Governor General of Independent India was Lord Mountbatten,a British. However later on C.Rajagopalachari took over the post.
Actually Rohit few minutes ago i was also of the opinion that Rajagopalachari was the 1st Gov Gen of independent India, just now i searched and got to know the correct answer.

Just to add to that GK thread.. C Rajgopalachari is credited to be the first Indian Governor General i.e a general of Indian Nationality... and not the first governor general of Independent India...

a very brilliant task done by YP Ashok.The structure of the blog is commendable. You really deserve a hats off from entire CYP.
I would just like to ask everyone to contribute to the blog made so nicely by sharing their updates in the recent news column and also their professional queries to enlighten the rest.
The reason behind blog being inactive till now is the lack of interest among majority CYP members to regularly visit and check d blog.Moreover please post ur suggestions to improvise on the blog.
We people are aware f d Institute journal which has lot of recent EAC opinions and tax judgements. We can start a section to share the imp ones which would help us surely.
